Tenure

Collins & Blaha, P.C. is one of the foremost authorities on tenure law in the State of Michigan. Gary J. Collins and William J. Blaha are co-authors of The Michigan Teacher and Tenure. For the past 25 years, with the publication of The Michigan Teacher and Tenure, Gary Collins and William Blaha have strived to provide a comprehensive review of Michigan’s Teachers’ Tenure Act. This publication offers a unique and cohesive resource to anyone interested in the teacher tenure law.

Collins & Blaha, P.C. represents school districts at all levels of the tenure process including evidentiary hearings before an Administrative Law Judge. In addition, our firm has successfully defended Districts in appeals by the teacher to the Teacher Tenure Commission, Circuit Courts, the Court of Appeals, and the Michigan Supreme Court.

In July of 2011, the Michigan Teachers’ Tenure Act was dramatically altered. Collins & Blaha, P.C. frequently counsels its clients on how these reforms should be implemented and how they impact tenure issues facing their District. Gary Collins and William Blaha have given presentations to numerous school districts, intermediate school districts, and professional organizations throughout the state on the new tenure reforms and their impact on Michigan’s public schools.
